Balloon angioplasty: A small balloon catheter is placed across or through a blockage in the coronary artery and inflates to open the narrowing and improve blood flow through the vessel.

Stent placement:  A stent (tiny mesh tube) is placed within the narrowed area in the coronary artery and the device acts as a “scaffold” to keep the blockage open. Stent procedures are usually performed at the same time as balloon angioplasty.
